Kochi, Japan — On a fateful day at the Kochi Racecourse, jockey Yudai Tsukamoto's promising career came to a heartbreaking end. The 25-year-old rider, representing Mesako Daisuke Kyusha, fell from his horse during the 10th race, and despite immediate medical attention, he couldn't be saved.
Tsukamoto was riding No. 4 Cosmo Sea Wolf when disaster struck. As the horses raced around the track, Cosmo Sea Wolf stumbled, throwing Tsukamoto off balance. The impact was severe, and he was rushed to a Kochi City hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead on the same day.
The horse racing community mourns the loss of a talented jockey. The racing company expressed their condolences, saying, "We pray that his soul may rest in peace." Tsukamoto had achieved significant milestones, including 318 victories in local races. His journey began with his first win in 2016, and he reached his 300th victory in 2023.
This heartbreaking incident marks the fourth time since 1989 that a jockey has lost their life during a race. Tsukamoto joins the ranks of other fallen riders: Tatsuya Matsui, Takashi Sato, and Masakata Honda.
As the racing world grapples with this tragedy, Yudai Tsukamoto's memory will forever be etched in the annals of horse racing history. May he rest in peace.
